In my opinion- CC is the final 'plan' for the dumbing down of this once great Republic-

Carol, fwiw, Common Core as it is written in regrad to its goals is fine according to teachers and many others. It is the bastardization of the curricula that was put together that makes it evil. Maybe Jeb should make this more clear because it surely isn't. Not that I support Jeb. I don't.
I'm with Kid on this (as many other things).
Common Core was laudable as formulated.
The term has been bastardized.

After reading many of the of the convoluted "lessons" my question is-what is wrong w/ memorizing the times tables- reading via phonics instruction (which is gone) - etc etc etc

Yeah, multiplication tables were drilled into us so that they stay in your brain forever. Not anymore. Kids don't know 9 x 7 without a calculator. Pathetic.
The Common Core math method is just plain nuts. It adds three or four steps to every process. Just completely stupid to do this, even though it works well enough to arrive at an answer. But kids will never be able to quickly estimate math based situations like old timers can who learned the old fashioned way.
