Sergeant Major Plumley was an outstanding soldier. America is blessed to have had him defending this country. Looking around at what America has become today, I wonder if the American people even deserve such fantastic men as Plumley and General Moore. I suspect not.

How I wish we had about a million of those fine men.

I have the movie We Were Soldiers, but wasn't aware it was based on a true story, or did I? I know Black Hawk Down was and I still cry like a baby after watching it.

Leticia, it was based on a true story and both General Moore and SgtMaj Plumley were advisors during the making of the film. And so too was Joe Galloway, who was present during the entire battle.

M- just watched We Were Soldiers again-
got more out of it this time--and also smiled at the confirmation that the helicopter and planes are the horses of the cavalry of old--posted on same some years ago.

L- isn't it interesting that our service of our BEST makes the best stories and thus the best movies...

Leticia, I believe America DOES have a million more like them. And probably always will have.

There are a lot of us, Carol. Never believe the claim that America is universally loathed around the world. We look to her as the "gold standerd" of freedom, despite the best efforts of the Dems and bureaucrats to tarnish that reputation.
Incidentally, I met somebody may years ago (while in Rhodesia) who was subsequently at that battle... Rick Rescorla.
