General John J. “Black Jack” Pershing was born this date in 1860

My take-West Point used to 'produce' some of the best horsemen in the world...Thayer Hall was the training and stabling center- now it is used for academics ...
There is still an equestrian team at West Point...

Tidbit of history: Pershing could not abide MacArthur.
The mounted knights of yesterday are the airmen of today. Invaluable to any modern army, but not to take away from the vital infantry man.
Thank you for honoring the great General Pershing! What a guy and he DID know how to deal with muslim terrorists, if I remember correctly. :-)
M-thanks for that link-I do know that Mac Arthur's mother stayed at the Thayer Hotel for much of his time at WP...and that he was know as 'mama's boy'...
MK- Mounted knights-the mental picture brings a smile-thanks my friend :-)
J-most of our BEST - back then and before (from Halls of Montezuma-shores of Tripoli-Barbary pirates- comes to mind)-knew how to deal w so apparent an enemy -thanks for the heads up...
