Now that we know that Paterno has lung cancer, it could be that it was part of some sort of estate planning. For example, if at Joe's death, the house is NOT part of his estate, his estate might fall below an amount where the death tax (estate tax) does not apply, but he is probably worth a lot more than that.
Not that I know, or even care.
